Gene's Birthday Trip
We usually celebrate birthdays
by taking a VW backroad day trip. In honor of Gene's birthday on August 4th, we packed lunch,
beer, fishing gear and kayaks and headed out onto the backroads of Sierra County, destination Mill's Peak lookout.
We found said lookout (neglecting to photograph it), then explored various dirt Forest Service roads
finding a fun rampaging spot, wildflowers and scenic views. We then headed to Gold Lake to kayak in the wind-churned waves
and toss more fishing gear into the lake with no results until Gene gave up in fury, proclaiming once again "fishing sucks!"
He gets bored after 10 minutes, and it takes longer than that to catch something...but he seemed happy sitting by the shore
on a rock with a Sierra Nevada Pale Ale watching the sailboats and the waves in the waning afternoon light.
