CANYCA: California to New York (and back) pg. 8

And here we are.....

Having mentioned the SAC Museum, aka the Strategic Space and Air Museum I hereby give you this link, as well as the following photos. It was a very interesting place. To see firsthand the level of intracacy in this technology of aviation. Of science. And of war. For some reason I find myself (like many many others) drawn irresistably to these machines of aggression and death: Despite our general abhorrence of war and killing, these very instruments of hate construed as graceful, nimble, tough, agile, etc. and the level of skill in the use of these devices raised in our consideration to the level of art. From sword-dancing and weaponless disciplines of movement to squadrons of fighter jets entwined in impossible aeronautical dalliance above awed spectators, war has spawned forms of expression that cannot be denied such an august title: "The Art of War" The concept of flight, also, has always captured our imaginations and quite recently in our history as a race, given a taste of a kind of freedom, but also changed the world in complex ways both good and bad. But it sure is pretty neat, so instead of this ponderosity, let us see some darn pictures!

I must say, it was quite the challenge to get really decent shots, so these will have to do. If you're in the area, go there yourself and check it out! I was a little bummed that I couldn't go onboard the B-17 ... I've always had a fondness for the things!

There was one huge plane in there with three rear-facing props and a jet engine (I think)on each wing! And it took me a good 45 seconds to walk from the fuselage to one wingtip!

The simulator was fun, but not that realistic. They really need to put side-screens in to give a three-dimensional feel to the experience. Playing a dumbed-down video game with full-on roll, pitch, yaw, and all that gut-wrenching good stuff was what it basically amounted to.

As I looked around at this huge and amazing collection of restored aircraft, I couldn't help but muse about the likelihood that some more advanced culture of ultra-dimensional space aliens is working closely but with the utmost discretion with our esteemed higher-ups. Can ya dig it? Good, 'cuz you're paying for it too! Gotta get some joy out of our investment, right?
