Plumas-Eureka/Quincy Summer, 2006

This clip is comprised of shots taped during the Summer of 2006...earlier on. Both involved the Plumas-Eureka National Forest and Quincy area in the northern Sierra. Plumas National Forest Trip oughta give you some insight into the area. One of the trips mentioned by the title of this little video is the scouting out of the network of roads centered around LaPorte Road, which goes from the Plumas-Eureka State Park mine museum to LaPorte, through varied forest, rocky and steep in places, bumpy everywhere, and fun fun fun! Not a "hard" road, it is just a great way to find out whether your air filters are working, your tires are stout enough to withstand the pointy rocks, and your maps sufficient to the task of keeping you informed as to your location. A veritable backroadbus.com heaven, this! Also, a quick ascent up the foreshortened road to Eureka Peak, which is about 30 minutes from LaPorte road.

Camping (and mudsplashing) can be enjoyed at McGrae Meadows, where there are two campsites, a trail, and a funky pit toilet. McGrae Meadows is very close to an intersection of dirt roads; the road back to the mine, the road back up to Eureka Ridge, the road to the "A Tree" whatever that is, and of course, the road to LaPorte. All of these are dirt/rock roads, and have lots of yet-to-be-explored offshoots (campsites, additional tracks, and little offroad challenges and rampaging opportunities of the finest kind!)

Only one version of this video is available ... but look for another video and story with associated still photography by both Michele and myself about this immediate area, as at the time of this posting, we are freshly returned from an autumnal adventure on the LaPorte Road. (late October, 2006). Also, at some point, there will be a video of some of the natural features and beautiful scenery in the area. The video you are about to view was shot in the early summer of '06
