About us

We tend to buy properties with the intention of living there forever, then after a few years, get itchy feet, and move on.  Most of the time this unintentional game of real estate shuffle has made us money…enough to live on at least, and because we are increasingly frugal, we can live for cheap.  Having no children by choice gives us even more time, money, and freedom, although a pair of ducks and three cats is not a responsibility to be taken lightly.  We prefer living off-the-grid, and are very comfortable with doing so.  In a nutshell, we decided to find a bus we can live in,  and use it to move to Alaska (from Northern California) instead of renting a moving van.  During the next few years at our new property in Homer Alaska, we plan to repair and build up the bus to suit our living needs and also design and build a 16′ trailer to house and carry our 1960 VW doublecab, as well as a few shop tools, a pair of bicycles, and parts.  We will spend some time exploring Alaska, and then plan to live in the bus on the road, mainly in the West, boondocking like we do in our VW camper except that we need not ever return to our static home/lifestyle.   Unless we want to.

We found out about Flxible buses recently while searching the Internet for a live-in-able conversion or bus basis for a conversion.  When I saw the first one, a junker on Craigslist, I exclaimed “I found it!” referring not necessarily to the specific vehicle, but to the whole range of possibilities that the older Flxible line offered.  They are similar in some ways to the older VW buses that we have been into for years.   After looking at several Flxibles offered for sale in various parts of the U.S., we found the 1947 Flxible Clipper in Oregon and fell in love.  She needs some work, but is relatively rust free and should make it to Alaska.

We will be leaving for Alaska on May 16th 2010, and plan to post to this blog from the road as long as we have reception for our cell phone/modem.   It should be a grand adventure!  We hope you will follow along…
